THREE FOR THREE, 4 PROMPTS LEFT

On her blog, A Different Perspective, my friend Murisopsis issued a challenge for National Poetry Month:  using the supplied prompts, in any order, write thirteen poems in 30 days, one poem each Monday, Wednesday and Friday in April.  The first week, I nailed three prompts with one poem; the second week, ditto.  Could I pull off this amazing feat a third time?  See for yourself!

4.  Write a concrete (shape) poem
5.  Write a poem about signs of spring
8.  Write four Haiku about favorite foods

Woot! Is that a salad bowl I see? I love the one about rhubarb and the spinach haiku made me laugh!!

It’s the basket I carry to the Farm Market, full of the signs of spring. Hubby is a rhubarb pie purist–no strawberries, ever. Spinach, asparagus, rhubarb, and fresh herbs are all favorite foods, especially after a long winter. I’m at the point where triples are no longer possible, so look for upcoming challenge poems on their “due date.” 🙂

Love your Haiku, Tippy. I had you pegged as more of a Cheez-its kind of guy. Getting your five-a-day is definitely easier in spring, when everything is fresh and colorful. 🙂

Cheez-Its only give me my yellows. I have to have other colors too.

Hey, Snoozin! I suppose I could have squeezed one more item in the basket. And I love strawberries. Alas, we have none at the farm market yet. They do not ripen around here until early June. 🙂

I missed the basket shape here – maybe because my mind got stuck on the concept of eating asparagus spears one-by-one. How does that work? Our only cure for asparagus is to strip, slice and slow-cook it in a white wine risotto. Now if I know you, what YOUR brain is working on is how to do the last four challenges in one go.

Ooooooh! We brush asparagus spears with extra virgin olive oil, sprinkle with salt and pepper, and grill them for a minute or two. They land on the plate bright green and intact. I could cut the whole pile crossways and fork up the pieces, but I prefer to pick them up with my fingers and eat them one by one. People don’t carry baskets to the market anymore, mostly reusable bags, but I hoped running it on Easter Sunday would provide a clue. 🙂
