Remember a few months ago when I posted about winning the Erma Bombeck Humor Essay contest? I got word this week that, due to COVID-19, the awards ceremony is going to be conducted virtually on Thursday, October 8 from 7 – 7:45 pm EST on a site called Crowdcast. Erma’s daughter, Betsy Bombeck, will give the keynote address and winners (including me) will read their essays. You have to register at https://www.crowdcast.io/e/erma-bombeck-awards-ceremony if you wish to attend. You must provide your email address and confirm it by responding to an email they send you. If you’ve always wondered what JustJoan looks like, now is your chance to find out. I look forward to seeing all of you in the audience.

Um, no. I don’t have a PC camera. I don’t know how crowdcast works. Never done it before. But if I have to have a PC camera, it may not work for me.
Besides, I’m ugly. You don’t want to know what I look like. You’ll never sleep well again.

I think you can watch without being watched. For the record, my PC camera is covered with electrical tape all the time, unless I’m Zooming with my family or participating in a dog and pony show like this one. I’m not ugly exactly, just plain and un-adorned. No hair dye, no make-up, wrinkles on display. I might wear a blouse instead of a t-shirt, a necklace if I’m really feeling froggy. 🙂

Sounds good. I’ll try to tune in when the time comes. I don’t have a PC camera, because I’m sure my face would break it within the first minute.

Virtual. Speakers and audience will all be virtual. Not sure how well humor will go over in a virtual forum since you can’t really look at people or see if they’re laughing
