HALF RHYME, FULL DISCLOSURE

I could make up some lame excuse for falling off the face of the blogo-sphere, like overdoing it during the April poetry challenge, being out of town to take care of an ailing sister, dealing with a fender bender and a leaking toilet upon my return, or having to send a buttload of cards for June birthdays and graduations, but I won’t.Β  The real reason is LAI‘D out below:

APOLOGY

Five weeks of stasis
in the JustJoan Oasis
on WordPress

Is a lengthy hiatus
and truly outrageous,
I confess

I felt un-loquacious;
forgive my audacious
laziness

Thanks, KE. Inspiration is infuriatingly fickle, coming and going on its own schedule. But it’s good to be back, contributing something to the Wide World of Words. πŸ™‚

Thanks, JR. May was a busy time, my head bursting with everything but poems. This piece started with an idea, “What rhymes with hiatus?” and grew into an apology for a creative lapse that turned into full-blown, nap-taking, TV watching, bon-bon eating laziness. πŸ™‚

If half rhyme is this good…..
    Welcome back.
Going away sometimes is good for health (and writing😊).

Thanks, PB. Half-rhyme is my favorite kind–perfectly imperfect. Too much time at one’s desk befuddles the Muses. They need us to get out and shake things up, return with fresh images and ideas. πŸ™‚

Everyone needs a nap now and then. And maybe now that you’ve woken up, you’ll have some fresh new ideas for poems.

Missing a blog deadline is very out-of-character for me, Tippy, as is napping and bon-bon eating, but it felt soooooo good. Lots of ideas are bouncing around presently; I just need to get them down on paper and figure out what to do with them. πŸ™‚

You make a grand (re)entrance! I’m hoping that all the issues have been resolved along with the missing muse no longer mute!!

Thanks, Muri. Everything is well-rested, fixed, and under control. The Muse is quite unpredictable; she comes and goes on her own schedule. I keep little notebooks everywhere, but she loves teasing me by tossing out lines when I can’t write them down, like in the middle of my shower or at the point in a recipe where I must “stir constantly.” πŸ™‚

I’m not sure why bloggers feel the need to apologize for being away, but if they do, they should always write their apologies in verse. And a leaking toilet is just a poem waiting to happen.

I’ve always wondered that, too, Snoozin. Does anybody even miss me when I’m away? Other than my mom, I mean. As a poet, I’m honor-bound to apologize in verse. The toilet was a real enigma (not enema) for the plumber, who thought it should have TWO wax seals and plastic shims under one side because “the floor is uneven.” Flat tile set on a flat concrete slab! How on earth it managed not to leak for the first eight years after its installation is a mystery. My best toilet-related poem is probably this one: https://justjoan42.wordpress.com/2017/08/20/plunged-into-a-nightmare/

Thanks, KRC. Really, my lapse was nothing more than a period of uninspired indolence. Silver lining: I learned a few new words, LOL. πŸ™‚
