The brain fools us in many ways. When I enter the house from the sweltering heat outside, it feels cold even though it is 70 degrees. In winter it is quite the opposite. Even though your bedtime story is a bit different, I would not worry. Have a great day, Joan!

Thanks, Peter. I wasn’t worried so much as puzzled by the effect the outside temperature has on us, even when we are in our climate-controlled houses. Same is true during non-sleep hours. When I’m indoors, I wear sweatpants in winter and shorts in summer; nonsensical, but my brain cannot be convinced to do otherwise. Have a lovely Sunday! 🙂

Very amusing. But let’s get scientific about this. In the summer your core body temperature is elevated and needs to cool down. Hence, blankets are anathema. However in winter your core is depressed and needs to warm up. So without blankets you’re freezing.

I couldn’t find a word that rhymes with anathema, but if you can maybe you can write a new poem.

So, Tippy, you’re saying there is a real, scientific explanation for this? Whew, thank heavens! Unless this is some kind of Old Timerus Bull Shiticus. RhymeZone is quite helpful with rhymes for unusual words. Although it listed no EXACT rhymes, it offered a few oblique ones: africa, algebra, canada, scapula, stamina, taffeta, parabola, tarantula… Maybe we’re colder than snowballs in Canada? And as stiff as an arthritic tarantula? Glad to see you, I’ve been away for a while and missing your stolen quotes. 🙂

Where have you been? And please, no old timerus bull shiticus.

Back up at my mom’s, my dad’s burial was last weekend (of his ashes, he was cremated). The muses haven’t felt like singing of late, so I took a summer vacation.

Oh I see. My condolences concerning your dad. I get the sense you’re going to miss him quite a bit.

Sorry, Muri, like when someone mentions a song and it gets stuck in your head?

Well, I know that’s right! But of course, what the heck is it with us? You have posed a fun and thought-provoking situation here, Joan. 😀

Thanks, Lana. I know the facts, yet I was still throwing my blanket off all last night. Hooray for autumn, when blankets feel just right. 🙂
