THE RAINBOW CONNECTION

I’ve heard that rainbows are actually rings (if you could see the whole thing) and that spotting a double rainbow is quite rare.  I didn’t write this poem with gay marriage in mind, but it seems to fit here:  a double rainbow, two rings, a once in a lifetime event…   And what better day to share it than the one-year anniversary of the Supreme Court decision to legalize same-sex unions in all fifty states?  Congrats to everyone who tied the knot after this long and arduous fight for equal rights.  A toast to the bride and bride (or the groom and groom):  May you all enjoy the blessings of a long and happy life together.  Hear, hear!

ONCE IN A LIFETIME

I glanced up from behind the wheel, high into the sky,
and before me blazed a miracle, a spectrum of serendipity

A vibrant arc stretched from one horizon to the other;
behind it glimmered the tenuous energy of a struggling twin

I parked recklessly on the berm of a dangerous curve,
aligned the shot and snapped, capturing it with my iPhone

double rainbow

The memory thus immortalized, I was free to move on,
but instead, I stayed and watched until the faint bow faded

And the bright one dimmed and vanished into the cloudless
blue-gray sky, without a pang of regret for being late to work.

    That’s it my dear! sometimes you have to stop what you are doing and capture, breathe and experience the moment, it may never come again😀

    Nice shot. I hope you came up with a colorful excuse for being late to work.

    Timely and beautiful. Isn’t it fun just to sit and watch–no matter the view! Ursula

    What a beautiful and fitting tribute it is…well worth being a bit late for work.

    This is very nice and appropos (is that the right word)? Either way, I enjoyed this post.
